Butalbital, acetaminophen and caffeine is the primary components of the medicine Fioricet. Butalbital is in the groups of drugs called barbiturates. Butalbital relaxes muscle contractions involved in a tension headaches. Caffeine is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant. It improves blood flow by relaxing the muscle contractions in blood vessels. Muscle contractions causes tension headaches and this is what Fioricet is used for treatment. Fioricet is butalbital apap caffeine tabs.
Butalbital/acetaminophen/caff tabs (Fioricet) should not be used by people who have porphyria. Those who recently have used alcohol, sedatives, tranquilizers, or other narcotic drugs should also consult a doctor before using butalbital acetaminophen caff tabs.
MAO inhibitors such as isocarboxazid, linezolid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, and tranylcypromine may cause dangerous interaction with Fioricet. Do not use Fioricet if you have taken the abovementioned MAO inhibitors in the past 14 days.
Take only the amount of what is recommended by your doctor. Acetaminophen overdose can cause liver damage or even death. If you have nausea, pain in your upper stomach, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, or jaundice (yellowing of your skin or eyes), call the attention of your doctor at once. Acetaminophen may also cause skin reactions. Consult with your doctor before taking Fioricet.
My doctor wrote me a script for I think it said Tramadol, my it was filled as butalbital/apap/caffeine taps. My question is before I start taking these are they going to give me that "high" feeling like some of the other pain meds out there?
